The Femme Oasis: How do you identify yourself (gender and gender performance)?

Shayne: Female

TFO: What is your current occupation?

S: Student studying Clinical and Community Psychology

TFO: What do you do as a hobby?

S: In my free time, I do synchronized swimming, watch movies, photography, spend time with friends

TFO: What are some organizations you’re involved in?

S: Illini Synchronized Swimming, To Write Love On Her Arms U-Chapter, Women 4 Outreach, Counseling Center Paraprofessionals, ADAPT Lab, and Undergraduate Psychology Association.

TFO: What is your dream job?

S: I am currently still figuring it out. I would love to work on a college campus in student affairs or a counseling center.

TFO: What are the three major stressors in your life?

S: Time management and prioritization, not letting anxiety get the best of me, and procrastination.

TFO: How do you cope with your stresses (if at all)?

S: I am learning to speak up and take time for myself.

TFO: Do you have goals you set for your life overall?

S: My goal is try to change how society looks at mental illness.

TFO: What is your process in achieving these goals?

S: I am a part of the peer educators for the Counseling Center and try to facilitate discussions about mental wellness.

TFO: Are you happy where you are in life?

S: Yes because I see where I still have to grow and I can see where I can from.

TFO: Are you on a path you feel is right for you?

S: I believe so since I finally feel like I am learning about things I care about. I am working towards goals that are the most important to me.

TFO: Do you feel confused or pressure to figure out if you are on the right path?

S: There is a major pressure with our age group to know exactly what we are going to do with the rest of our lives.

TFO: Do you feel you can alleviate these hindrances or do you feel they are bigger than you?

S: It frequently feels bigger than me, but when I talk about it with friends and family, I remember that it is not impossible that I don’t always know what I want to do.

TFO: What are some pressures of society you wish didn’t exist?

S: The culture of perfectionism. It is very relevant on our campus with the culture of trying to top everyone else.

TFO: What would be one thing you don’t have but you want at this very moment (it can be tangible or intangible)?

S: A house on the beach and warm weather!

TFO: What do you do for self-care (if anything)?

S: I take care of myself listening to my favorite music, swimming, and taking care of myself, such as face masks.

TFO: What is something you do well that you can offer society?

S: I offer empathy and compassion with everyone I work with.

TFO: Do you have goods or services you want to sell or promote to your fellow femmes and women?

S: No
