We’ve all had times when we’ve felt stuck in our jobs.  Maybe you’re looking for a career change or eyeing a promotion.  Or maybe you just want to enhance the skills you use in your current position.  Finding the time or the resources to further your education can be a stumbling block for many people.

Finding the time or the resources to further your education can be a stumbling block for many people.

The great news is that there are an abundance of online resources to improve your skills, enhance your education, or just to satisfy your curiosity.  Of course, there are also options such as formal online schooling to consider. Most colleges now offer online coursework that ranges from skill building courses all the way to full degrees. However, many institutions now offer free coursework.  For example, MIT offers several free courses through the MIT OpenCourseWare program.  The course finder serves as a fantastic tool for selecting the topic you want to learn about.  Another website is Open Culture, which keeps a running list of free online courses available from universities throughout the world.

Some webinars even offer completion certificates, which you can use in your professional file.

Another learning option is the webinar.  A quick Google search for “online webinar for ....” will bring up a page of options for whatever area you want to specialize in.  Some webinars even offer completion certificates, which you can use in your professional file.

Finally, if formal classes or online trainings aren’t for you, YouTube has an incredible selection of training videos.  Learn how to code HTML, how to write a technical report, or even how to solve linear equations. If there’s something you want to learn for your job, you’ll be able to find someone who created a video and wants to teach you how to do it. Keep in mind that it’s important to verify that you are learning from a credible source.  Be sure that your “teacher” is knowledgeable in their field.
